Online dating is no longer reserved for desperate singles in a last ditch effort to find love.
According to the Pew Research Center, dating websites are now one of the main ways that Americans are meeting their future mates, with 23per cent of people finding their spouse or long term partner online.
'Public attitudes toward online dating have become more positive in recent years,' explained researchers, who conducted the national survey of dating and relationships in the digital era - the first dedicated to this subject by the Pew Research Center’s Internet Project since 2005.

Telephone interviews conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International from April 17 to May 19, 2013, surveyed 2,252 adults, age 18 and older about their online dating experiences.
Thirty eight per cent of Americans who are currently single and actively looking for a partner have used online dating at one point or another, according to the study.
